In order to maintain and enhance teaching quality, our school organized the Professional Development Day for our teaching staffs on 30th March 2021. The seminar was facilitated by Mr. Eric Tsang of Positive Education Laboratory, City University of Hong Kong. Mr. Tsang provided a detailed analysis on students’ learning motivations being affected by a basket of factors. The seminar began with the case study of Mr. Rex Tso, a renounced athlete, in which his motivations to overcome challenges are discussed. Then, teachers were tasked to prepare for a performance, through which they experienced and reflected on the various types of motivations they had. The day was concluded by the differentiation between two major categories of motivation, namely Control Belief and Competence Belief, denoting the need for teachers to encourage and guide students to enjoy the process of learning.
